Belize Golf Tournaments - May 4th 2013

Thanks to all that participated Saturday in the 5th Monthly tournament of the year.

We saw the race for the Yearly Net Points tighten up with the 3 S&Ms level on 28 points. Only 17 points separate the top half of the table so plenty to play for.

The Victor Ludorum Player of the year sees 1 player make a massive move to the top of the table, although there are lots of points available in the next month at the Corkers World Cup and the double points Belize Amateur Open. Tables Below.

Another great day at the office for Belize's Golfers. The Banana Shake Scramble sponsored by Sam Mathias was a great success with 13 teams turning out. Congratulations to the 3 winning teams. We had 6 new faces on the winners podium.

Thanks to Sam Mathias for sponsoring the event. Only Sam's fiendish mind could have concocted the 1 Club Scramble and even more notably, the 17th Hole worse ball format. It was the undoing of many of the teams, as their perfect rounds came unravalled. 

Also a thank you to Peter Allen and Alan Gobie for donating prizes.

Belize 2013 Match Play

Welcome to the BAGA Match Play Tournament. 16 Players will battle out this years competition.

FORMAT :

·        Double Elimination Draw. Once you have lost 2 matches you will be eliminated from the Tournament.

·        Handicap Match Play over 18 holes. For example if an 18 handicapper plays a 10 handicapper (8 strokes difference), the 18 handicapper will receive 1 stroke on each of the 8 hardest holes.

·        IMPORTANT : PUT YOUR HOLE SCORES ON THE SCORECARD SO THE COMMITTEE CAN CHECK THEM. CARDS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT THE SCORES ENTERED AND YOU WILL BE ASKED TO REPLAY THE MATCH.

·        If a match is tied after 18 holes, then play continues from Hole 1 until one player wins a hole.

·        Players will use their Current Handicap as displayed in the Club House at the time of each individual match.

·        If a player arranges a game with an opponent and does not turn up he/she forfeits the match.

·        If you have offered 3 dates to play and your opponent still has not agreed a date contact the BAGA committee. A player that makes no effort to arrange his game will be Disqualified.

·        BAGA committee will have the final decision on player’s disputes.

·        Green Fee of $50 per player/match to be paid to Roaring River Golf Course.

Belize Golf Tournaments - March 2nd 2013

Thanks to all that participated Saturday. We had several players turning in personal best performances and competition is now getting stiff in the race for the Victor Ludorum Player of the Year. In both the Yearly Gross and Net Categories we also have players bunching up at the top of the tables.

Belize Jungle Dome 2 Person Scramble - Feb 23rd 2013

Thanks to all that turned up Saturday for the 2nd Annual Belize Jungle Dome 2 Person Scramble. 38 Players participated and the Tournament was closely contested with only 11 Points separating the first team from the last team.

Belize Golf Tournaments - February 2nd 2013

Even the ducks ran for cover on Saturday but a hardy (or foolhardy) bunch  of golfers donned their wet suits and played the second tournament of the year for the BAGA.

Congratulations to Lorenzo Forbes who filled his basket with awards on Saturday.

Thks to the players who donated prizes. Alan Graham, who added the Bogey Man award. The Southern Possie added the usual chip in prize with Rob Lee and Bill Mckenzie donating golf balls. We appreciate all these and thank everyone for that.

The next tournament is on 23rd February. This is the Belize Jungle Dome 2 Person Scramble. All are welcome. This is a 2 player team event.

We have some great prizes including :

•  1st, 2nd, 3rd Trophies for winning teams.
• Wooden Spoons for the team finishing in last place.

Belize Golf Tournaments - January 19th 2013

The Seasons opening Tournament started with a fine turnout of players. The Xmas and New Year excesses did not stop our players from turning in some excellent scores, most notably, George Paoletti, who won his first tournament with an outstanding net 59.

Welcome to the 2013 Golf season for the BAGA. We enter into our 4^th year and we hope to continue the progress made by the association. The Association grew to 38 Members in 2012. Thank you for all your support. 

Welcome to the Board :

·         Steve Hack (President), John Sansone (Vice President), Mickey Thornton (Treasurer),   Andy Hunt (Tournaments and Handicaps), Sam Mathias (Secretary), 

·         Trustees :  Peter Allen, Ray Garbutt Sr and John Wongsam.

Membership Fees :

·         The registration fee for the BAGA will be $80.00 per player. Players should pay their registration before they enter their first tournament. Each Member will receive a copy of the 2012-2015 R&A Rules Book.

Tournaments :

·         Tournament Entry Fee : $55.00.

·         12 Monthly Tournaments. Points will be awarded on scale from 12,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 for each category, every month : Gross (without hdcp), Net (with hdcp) and Senior Net (with hdcp)

·         Each monthly tournament, 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place medals will be presented to the winners of Gross and Net Category.  There will also be a 1^st Place Senior trophy for Net category for each month.

·         Senior age is any player who is 60 years + at Jan 1^st 2013. Any player who turns 60 during the 2013 season.

·         Player will be permitted to win in one category only. Either Gross, Net or Senior (Net).

·         Tournaments will start at 8.30am and players should register in the club-house before 8.15am.

·         Ties will be decided by best back 9 score (Gross or Net), best front 9 score or total score from 15^th- 18^th holes. If still tied a Scorecard countback starting at lowest hdcp hole (#8, #9, #18 etc) and continuing until winner is found (gross or net).

·         As agreed unanimously by the members, tournament groups will be drawn randomly at the beginning of each tournament. The committee has the right to change the groups if they see that slower players are grouped together, so we can improve the speed of play.

·         There will be 10 stroke play tournaments, plus 2 Stablefords.

·         Sidepot will include : Closest to Pin #1 and #10, Long Drive #15, any 2 Score, Hole In One. Plus Hole prizes for Longest putts.

·         Other Events Include : Belize Jungle Dome Scramble, Corkers World Cup, RF&G Belize Amateur Open, Banana Shake Scramble, Mexicana Masters, Presidents Invitational and Roaring River Xmas Invitational. All of these tournaments will carry points forward to the Victor Ludorum BAGA Player of the Year, Sponsored by Roaring River Golf Course.

·         One big trophy in the club house with monthly winners, smaller medals for 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd places.

Members Sponsorship :

·         We need sponsors for all of our monthly Tournaments. That includes YOU. All members should try and donate something during the season whether it be a bottle of wine, sleeve of balls, bag of tees, voucher etc, etc.

·         We also agreed that members would take turns to assist on tournament days to assist in the mundane chores such as collecting the $10 pot and writing up the Closest Pins and long drives. Don’t be shy in volunteering.

Etiquette :

·         Please respect other players during rounds. Do not tread on players putting lines, talk during a player’s stroke, stand on or behind the player’s line when putting etc.

·         We wish to have a friendly, cordial atmosphere at our tournaments and also encourage our new members to learn and enjoy the sport. Player’s patience with beginners and Juniors is also appreciated.

·         All players should make an effort to keep their speed of play swift for the benefit of all members. As a general rule, 4 hours is sufficient to complete a tournament round.

·         How Can I do this? Be ready to play when it is your turn by already considering the shot you wish to play. Complete most of your practice swing/s before it is your turn and already have your club selected so you can take your shot immediately. Move on from the greens swiftly after you have finished the hole. Also make an effort to have prepared for your putt while your opponents are putting. This can be done discretely without interfering with your opponents turn.

·         Repair your divots on the fairways and pitch marks on the greens. 

Notice Board in Club-House :

·         The Club House Notice Board will display results, see last year’s results, stats, information, newspaper clippings, current tables for 2013 etc.

End of Season Awards :

·         Victor Ludorum BAGA Player of the Year sponsored by Roaring River Golf Course. 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd.

·         Player of the year Gross (No HDCP), Net (With HDCP) and Senior (Net). There will be a prize for 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd with players only entitled to win in 1 Category of Gross, Net or Senior.

·         Match Play Champion, 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd.

·         Clubman of the Year, 1^st, 2^nd, 3rd. Role model for club, Always there to assist or help, acts in the best interest of the Association, Attendance, Sportsmanship. At the end of the year the committee will produce a short list, all members of the BAGA will then get one vote for their nominee.

·         Most Improved Player. Based on Starting handicaps (1^st Tournament in January 2013) and ending handicaps (last Tournament in December 2013). 

2013 should be an exciting year for the BAGA and we hope to see as many of you sign up as possible, to keep competition fierce and to spread around the awards.
